Es ist keine Dorfkirche, sondern eine Klosterkirche. Das Antoniterkloster Tempzin wurde 1222 von Fürst Heinrich Borwin I. gegründet und widmete sich vor allem der Pflege von am Antoniusfeuer (Mutterkornpilz) Erkrankten. Im 15. Jahrhundert wurde die spätgotische Klosterkirche erbaut. Ich vermute, dass die Zahl der dort betreuten Kranken und anderer Pilger die Größe der Kirche rechtrfertigten.
