Thank you, Peter. I am pretty sure it is illegal here too, but on old walls in the countryside you can still see them. I imagine that, like with all new building codes, you are required to remove them only if you do maintenance on the wall itself or do general improvements on the property.

Thank you, Carol. I took advantage of a cooler spell to go for bike rides in the hills just outside town and country lanes are a treasure trove of fences in various styles! :)
Broken glass on the walls is still a pretty common sight in the countryside around here, especially on low walls. They are indeed a pretty nasty way of keeping people out of your property. Although they are probably no more dangerous than, say, barbed wire, they do look even more vicious.

A great set of images, Annalia. It's a very long time since I saw glass on a fence. Again, HFF and best wishes.

Thank you, George. The only example I knew of within the city proper (on the wall of a convent, of all places!) has been long since replaced by a proper fence, but in out-of-way country lanes just outside city limit they are still quite common.
