I WAS NEVER GLUTTONOUS

this is a capital sin
in the convents monasteries and abbeys
of the Middle Ages
besides praying to the lord
there was nothing else to do
except to beat egg yolks and whites until stiff
add sugars and other sweeteners
to delight nuns and friars in their cells
and abbots their parish aisles
with space for digestion
between meals
I was never gluttonous
but every year I go to the conventual sweets fair
I look and ardently desire such delicacies
and I eat them
slowly
with lust
that's it
I was never gluttonous
and capital sins
are forgiven in confession

isso é pecado mortal
nos conventos mosteiros e abadias
da Idade Média
além das rezas ao senhor
não havia mais nada para fazer
a não ser bater gemas e claras em castelo
juntar-lhes açúcares e outros adoçantes
para deliciar freiras e monges em suas celas
e abades nas naves de suas paróquias
com espaço para fazer a digestão
entre refeições
nunca fui guloso
mas todos os anos vou à feira de doces conventuais
olho e desejo ardentemente tais iguarias
e como-as
lentamente
com luxúria
é isso
nunca fui guloso
e os pecados mortais
são perdoados na confissão
