This is an unusual bird for me and, laying there on the brick tiles with its amazing camouflage, almost makes me think of a cross between a bird and a reptile. Do you know the name of it? I would be curious to look it up.

It is a Chuck-will's-widow.
Chuck-will's-widow is a nightjar, a bird most active at dusk, at dawn and in the middle of the night. They'll fly about, foraging for bugs. Come morning and they'll seek refuge in a tree, in a shrub, in the grass for a day long nap.
