The Plough

The Plough
Taken from the lane at the back of my caravan in the Yorkshire Dales.
The Plough is perhaps the most famous pattern of stars in the night sky, although despite what many think, it's not actually a constellation in itself.

The Plough is a group of seven stars that in mythology form the body and tail of the mighty constellation Ursa Major, the Great Bear.

Nouchetdu38, Fred Fouarge, Erhard Bernstein, Karl Hartwig Schütz and 3 other people have particularly liked this photo

The Great Bear, technically known as Ursa Major, is an extensive constellation in the northern sky. The striking configuration of seven particularly bright stars in this constellation is known in German-speaking countries as the Big Dipper. WiKI

Sometimes described as the Big Dipper too and as Anna says above, a smaller part of Ursa Major. Well seen and caught here Gordon. The 25 sec exposure is about as long as you could dare to go, even with a 10mm lens without having too much star movement. I am pretty sure, from experience that you have a far darker sky up there than I have here. Well done.

Cheers. Herb
