Origine
Le Lantana (Lantana camara), natif d’Amérique du Sud, a été introduit à Tahiti en 1853 par le capitaine d’infanterie de Marine, Chappe, où il a progressivement envahit nos vallées en perturbant les écosystèmes. Le lantana figure d’ailleurs sur la liste des 100 plus importantes pestes végétales du monde. Ses belles petites fleurs multicolores sont pourtant très appréciées par les « mamas polynésiennes ».
