In the 19th and early 20th century, farmers from the villages along the Swist creek - or rather: the farmers' wives - carried their products for miles through this forest, to Roisdorf, the nearest station of a railway connecting Cologne and Bonn. From this station, products were shipped to the cities, and the women would invest some of their earnings into sweets for their children. And the kids waited for mom's return at this place, and the tree there was therefor called the candy tree. The original tree died in 1977, however, so this is just the successor...

Nee - früher haben die Bauersfrauen aus den Dörfern in der Nähe ihre Produkte zur nächstgelegenen Station der Köln-Bonner Eisenbahn gebracht, von wo aus Obst und Gemüse dann in die Städte gebracht wurden. Und ein Teil des Erlöses wurde in Süßigkeiten investiert, so dass die Bauernkinder bereits an dieser Kreuzung auf die zurückkehrenden Mütter warteten. Der Baum ist allerdings vergleichsweise jung, der echte Kamelleboom verschied 1977.
