De Hoge ronde toren links (met 2 m dikke muren)dateert uit ca 1200...dat was het eerste stuk van het kasteel .............toen stond deze jarenlang (tot ca 1500) alleen in dit moerassige gebied daarna werdt er bijna elk jaar wat bijgebouwd-het laatste stuk rond 1700 totdat het zo als nu kwam uit te zien---het grootste kasteel tussen Maas en Rijn.
