Ik had vroeger een soortgelijke plant in mijn andere tuin, en mij was verteld dat het een kerstbloem werd genoemd, waarschijnlijk omdat het altijd rond die tijd bloeide.

Dit is een helleboris of kerstroos, maar dan de in het wild groeiende soort.
De kerstroos die in een tuincentrum word gekweekt, word zo gekweekt dat hij rond de Kerstmis bloeit, maar als je hem dan in de tuin plant, dan bloeit hij volgend jaar 6 weken later.
