A fascinating find Frans. This sort of thing is very photogenic. It looks as if it's not been used for some time.

Just out of interest I had a look on-line. There are hundreds of images of this type of machine and they all seem to work in a similar way, except the most modern ones are now electric powered rather than hand powered.

You are mostly correct, Annalia. The honey is stolen from the bees. The bees build the comb in wooden frames within a box above the hive. When the honeycomb has been filled and capped, the beekeeper removes the "super" from the hive, taking as few bees as possible. My father would then slice the caps off the combs with a hot knife and put the frames in the extractor. The extractor is then spun, throwing the honey out of the combs into the extractor. The honey-less combs are then replaced in the super, so the bees can refill them without having to rebuild the comb.

Deze firma bestaat nog steeds na 150 jaar.
Ze maakten van alles wat met bijen ,kaarsen, en zo te maken had.

Het apparaat is waarschijnlijk ooit door de firma A.I. Root company gemaakt en later is de aandrijving, bij gebrek aan onderdelen in huisvlijt met houten onderdelen gerepareerd.

Ik vond op het internet ,dat de firma A.I. Root na 150 jaar nog steeds bestaat met nu de 5de generatie.
