HFF vom geologischen Trias - Aufschluss

Diese gelben Steine sind mir an Gebäuden der Region schon öfter aufgefallen. Nun weiß ich woher sie stammen könnten. HFF

Nice outcrop. I identified it as Muschelkalk - most of the Permo-Triassic sediments in the UK onshore are continental red beds. It's a shame you can't get up close with your hammer.

That's right, lower Muschelkalk. As a teenager I crawled around in the holes. That was pretty risky. We were looking for treasure ;)) But that was before I studied geology.

A geological outcrop worth seeing in the St. Micheln district of the town of Mücheln (Geiseltal). You can see a section of the Lower Muschelkalk (shell limestone). From top to bottom: The Lower Wellenkalk (lower wave limestone), followed by the Werksteinbank (building stone layer), the Gelbe Grenzbank (yellow boundary layer) and the Strohgelben Kalke (straw yellow limestone), the latter already belonging to the Upper Buntsanstein (upper colored sandstone), the "Rö"t, and there to the Myophorienplatten(Myophoria plates), which are named after a fossil shell. The stone bench was extracted by deep mining (underground quarries). The quarries are already heavily rolled or collapsed and originally reached as far as the yellow boundary layer. The "building stone layer" was used to build barns or the foundations of residential buildings. Unfortunately, the outcrop is now located in the courtyard of a private property.
