Cruising Past the EB Buoy
The EB Bell Buoy at Bass Harbor Head marks the beginning of a narrow 14-foot-deep passage between a shallow rocky ledge and the headland with the lighthouse. ("Marinas.com" says a channel depth of 14 feet/4.25 meters ... but also to consider is that the tidal rise/fall is about 10 or 12 feet/3+ meters in this area, so if a boater is unsure of depth then better stay in the marked channel.) This shallow-draft vessel is probably safe anyway. And this boat owner is either a wordsmith or an entomologist: this vessel is named Balboata, which a Genus of butterflies (so maybe a lepidopterist).
