Niguarda is the neighbourhood in Milan where the anti-fascist uprising began on April 24, 1945, in a dramatic way, with the killing of the partisan courier “Lia.” On October 24, 2014, the historic collective VolksWriterz completed the mural Niguarda Antifascista and gifted it to the neighbourhood. April 25 is Liberation Day in Italy. It celebrates the liberation of Italy in 1945 from the fascist dictatorship of Mussolini and the German Nazi occupation. In particular, it commemorates the Italian resistance formed by partisans who helped the Anglo-American forces to liberate Italy.
