Just outside our front door entrance ~~~ see inf0
we saw activity, more than usual, from two Mocking birds, just 1 -2 steps out our front door at edge of the porch and lo and behold we found this!! there were 3 little eggs, HERE I snapped a really quick shot, and one of the little things was coming out of its egg:!! two more to hatch....A Terribly sad ending!! , this little one who is hatched died, and the other two eggs spoiled with lack of attention from the mom :))) we are so sad what happened here. we have cleared the nest as flies were beginning to swarm around the lifeless little bird and remaining eggs :((((

Roger (Grisly), Nouchetdu38, Aschi "Freestone", Danielle and 4 other people have particularly liked this photo

Sad to see Sarah, probably nested to close to other activity and so the parents abandoned the nest, Not much you can do about it in these circumstances. We have three nests in the Garden all reached fledging but one great tit nest the parent sat on the fence with food in it's mouth and would not come to the nest until we moved away

Hey there Maurice, Yes we DID think this nest was a bit close, BUT a year or so ago we had a nest IN A WREATH hanging on the front door, closer to us than this nest:) we watched through the glass door within 6 - 8 feet from us sitting here in the den ! those hatched as well but also was abandoned OR a squirrel or etc got to the nest.? wish the "parents" would trust us more :)
But they are in the wild / nature, and we humans are just "in the way" :)) thanks Maurice. Sarah

Hello again Sarah, I don't know for sure but I believe birds are unable to see through glass, we have a patio Acer tree right next to the conservatory where I have my exercise bike, Small birds come to this tree while I am doing exercises less than three feet away and seem totally unaware of my presence.

Hello Andy, yes we were saddened to see none of them survived? We DID NOT bother them, but they didn't trust us humans I guess.... thanks Andy

Hello my dear Sarah a lovely shot and an interesting one also to see the eggs of the Mocking bird ... so sorry to hear of the failure of this nest also before the young could be raised .. after the loss of our Blackbird nest in our hedge i looked up the possible reasons for this and was rather surprised to read the high loss / failure rate of Blackbirds nests that can be as high as eight out of nine abandoned

Best wishes ... Steve xx

Hey Dear Steve, thank you so much for your visit here and comment. I were saddened to see the results here Steve, but that's nature and of course we can't FIX that... that;s interesting what you discovered about the percentage of nests failures for birds, We really did not bother the "parents" here nor the eggs/and the one that did hatch, but the mom/dad abandoned the nest anyway , if you remember this happened also with a nest RIGHT ON our front glass door that was built in a wreath I had on the door :(.... have a good week , Best wishes, Sarah
