Pico de La Miel on the right, the Valley of the Lozoya on the left .It looks remote but it is very near Madrid! The granite rhino didn't charge me, much to my relief!
St Agnes' Head, Cornwall

When I visit Cornwall, my first tradition is to leap down the grassy bank to the edge of St Agnes' Head, lightly skip across the granite rocks and plonk myself down in a favourite corner at the end of this peninsula, while-away a few hours contemplating the universe, quantum physics, why men need to wear ties, Jeremy Corbyn and the intricate design of manhole covers, ... Theresa May and why her first name is impossible to pronounce by my Spanish students, before gently sauntering back uphill having taken 2 or three photos. A pint or two of bitter and a packet of dry-roasted in the Victory Inn at Towans Cross and I am a pig in clover.
In three weeks time time ... Please!

Must have been a Very Important Person indeed to merit such an impressive location for a tomb!

I have posted this granite oddity before - in a foggy December setting. This was taken in the heat of an August day but the breeze you can get on the ridge here takes the edge off the stifling heat down below.

There is a logical explanation for this sculpture which was noted on my Pano upload of this shot but which was stolen by Google and I can't now remember what it is!
Anyway I find the effect quite surreal!

Las Machotas, dry-stone wall

Constructed high in the Sierra de Guadarrama and now in ruins. I like the stone shapes in these walls just as I love the same in the drystone walls of upland Britain!

El Fraile, Las Machotas with dry-stone wall.

Overlooking El Escorial, Las Machotas present a nice, relatively easy hill walk. The old drystone walls are interesting too. El Fraile = The Friar. The rock at the summit seems to represent the cowled figure of a friar!
Best enlarged, at Carol's (Ecobird's) suggestion.
HFF everyone! A rare Cornish fence.

Reskajeage, above Fishing Cove. The coast sweeps past Hell's Mouth (partly hidden), North cliffs and St Agnes' Head and on to Perranporth and Newquay.
Taken not all that far from the previous shot with the honeysuckle (although two years later).
The reason why the post is perfectly presented and everything else is slightly bokeh-ish is because I forgot to switch off the flash (although Ben - Fratton Parker kindly explains that it is 'fill-in flash' and not a mistake!).

High above the beach by the side of the steep path.
A lazy, hazy summer's afternoon.
The cliffs seen here are called The Knavocks. No idea why.
Mar de Cristal Metro Station, Madrid

Typical of the Madrid metro designs in its great expansive phase from about 1995 to the onset of the recession and, deliberately over-edited by me, this represents a positive, thrusting, energetic attitude that faltered somewhat when the recession struck. However the legacy has left a metro network that, in large parts. exudes a dynamic upbeat feel that is very seductive.
It still needs to be paid for, however!

The town of Saint Day is on the skyline. My parents live here.
This is a tranquil scene.
But in the middle decades of the nineteenth century, this would have been hell on earth. It was the mining capital of the world for tin, copper, and arsenic.

The previous photo is of La Sierra de La Cabrera from the northwest. It looks more imposing from the plain here.
La Sierra de La Cabrera from the northwest

Taken on a very hot October day. This more or less encompasses the whole of the Sierra de La Cabrera (yes it is a small range but quite distinctive, standing out from the rest of the sierra). This shot is taken from near the summit of Mondalindo to the northwest. It overlooks the village of Valdemanco.

A horrible day, weatherwise but later it turned out absolutely gloriously. In England (and more specifically Cornwall) "you don't get climate, you get weather"
This is part of a shoreline walk / scramble / rock hop I have done many times and enjoy immensely.
