Valdemanco beehives
These beehives were stolen too often and so the villagers move them to a different location every few years. Here it is not on any path and when I chatted with the bar owner later he was a bit put out that I had found them! (The next time I came this way, maybe a couple of months later, they had been moved once more!).

Many thanks to you all!
It seems as if hive theft is a more common practice than I would have believed. What a shame!

Andy Rodker club has replied to Jocelyne Villoing clubA stroke of luck you were able to discover and photograph some here in this remarkable place.
Andy Rodker club has replied to * ઇઉ * clubI rarely follow paths (only if I have to!) so that is how I stumbled across these hives high above the village!
Andy Rodker club has replied to Ecobird clubIt made me think a bit more about what both the bees and the locals have to go through to keep safe!
I found this quote from the World Economic Forum online "Hive thefts are becoming more frequent, in correlation with the reduction in bee populations. Bees have become such a hot commodity to thieves that they can become traumatized victims of kidnapping, displacement and organised crime.’
Sad isn't it?
Andy Rodker club has replied to Keith Burton clubI know how proud the villagers are of their local honey. I bought a couple of jars once, not for me - honey is forbidden due to my diabetes - but for my sister and my girlfriend who both pronounced it delicious.

In Portugal too and beehives from Spain are placed in Portugal!
Andy Rodker club has replied to J.Garcia clubThank you, Judite!
The placing of these is in a lovely spot!
Eva,
Thank you both!
Yes, it's a terrible shame! I don't have any more info than what I mentioned above, I'm afraid. I don't know if the thieves are rival villages, international organizations (unlikely, but I just don't know), or what!
oui dans tous les pays, il y a de voleurs et profiteurs
Merci, Roland!

Yes, it's a worldwide problem, which was much discussed a couple of decades ago but I haven't heard more about declining bee populations recently. I think it's still a major worry though.
