Me gusta el contraste de la claridad en las rocas próximas con la oscuridad del fondo del monte.
Cielo amenazador. Cuidado con las tormentas en la montaña.

Thank you, José Manuel. The forecast had been for a sunny and warm day and it was very warm in Madrid when I set out in a t-shirt. This struck about ten minutes later and covered everything with snow and I was freezing cold! But after half-an-hour it cleared up and two hours later all the snow had melted and the temperatures were again very summery! And this on May 1st! And I was an experienced mountaineer!

One very moody sky Andy, In that location I would be thinking about where to take cover should the rain start.

Andy Rodker club has replied to HappySnapper
No point thinking about it because there was nowhere at all to take cover Maurice. So yes, I got drenched in the snow storm, which fortunately was brief!

We'll, I'm English and my younger years walking in the wilds of parts of the UK where extreme changes in weather happen often, meant I was used to it. I didn't usually go out with only a t-shirt though!!

Sounds like Scottish hill walking weather but it looks very different The quality of the light is lovely but of a different kind and the appearance of the rock is different too although Scotland has plenty of granite. This makes it all the more fascinating to me. I love the light and the drama.

I agree that some aspects of these mountains have a Caledonian feel, Jean.
It might surprise you to know that Mondalindo, the mountain brooding on the right, is nearly 2,000 metres high (over 6,000 feet). It doesn't seem any higher than Ben Nevis in my photo because the plain below is already at 2,000 feet!
The highest point in this mountain range (Sierra de Guadarrama, or Sierra del Norte or Sierra de Madrid) is Peñalara, about 20 miles west of this shot's location, and is 2,428 metres high (just under 8,000 feet). I was hoing to climb it with a walking group one day but the forecast was totally against us and they returned on a day when I couldn't join them. I still haven't been up it. One day ... maybe!

Terrific shot Andy. That must be unusual for 1st May in Spain. I only remember it happening once over here on that date. There was a charity pram race about to take place, but they were snowed under!!

Andy Rodker club has replied to Rosalyn Hilborne club
It certainly took me by surprise, Rosa. I'm usually so careful. That morning the (usually very reliable) weather forecast gave no hint of anything other than a glorious day all over Spain with temperatures up in the 80s for central areas.
Ha!!

SImilar! Except this was a mere scattering of snow which thawed within 10 minutes of the sun coming out. Then the sun dried my t-shirt and trousers in double-quick time as the temperatures soared!
