Nuevos Ministerios, Madrid

Nuevos Ministerios, Madrid
I understand that there used to be an equestrian statue of Franco on this spot.
The large complex of Nuevo Ministerios was designed by the famous architect Secundino Zuazo in the 1920s. Work started in the early 30s, was delayed by the civil war and resumed under Franco who changed the design to suit his own more conservative tastes.
There were teeming hordes of people a split second before I lined up my mobile phone and ... miracle of miracles ... the teeming hordes parted and I was left with a clear view of this.

Someone asked me this before on an earlier shot of this place. Was it you, Nick?
I looked long and hard for the answer and didn't find it but I believe it to be so; It certainly looks like granite to me and as many buildings and pavements in Madrid are made from it, quarried locally, it's a fair bet.
I doubt if it is limestone as that would have been known to deteriorate quickly in city pollution, especially as this is sited on Madrid's main north-south axis, the Paseo de La Castellana.

Am I to understand that the hordes of tourists took the equestrian statue of Franco with them??
No, I must misinterpret your speech (my English and my translator are so poor...!).
There is still a very nice capture of this neo-ancient monument, under a very beautiful light.

No, Eric; the crowd just parted in front of me, like Moses and the Red Sea!!!

You have been lucky, Andy, hordes of tourists are sometimes spoiling the view, but we cannot do anything against that !! Beautiful white building !!

A fine looking building Andy...................It actually looks more modern (to me, at least) than it is. Nicely composed and taken.
