...Hmmmm... now let me see ... Yes, I'm sure the path went straight across here the last time I passed this way! H. A. N. W. E. everyone!
Photo taken in August 2014. I previously walked this stretch of coast path in the summer of 2010 and the path did indeed go straight across from this point! A massive land slip had occurred in those few years. Porthtowan and St Agnes Beacon can be seen. First posted on ipernity in 2018. Better on large.

Andy Rodker club has replied to Roger (Grisly) clubI hope you don't mind, I've copied and pasted my reply to Larry!
That opposite section may well have gone too by now (6 years later); look at the cracks appearing at the top of the new cliffs. I keep meaning to check it out but with only a few days back each year, there is only so much I can see and do, sadly! The coast path now goes right round the far side of the green field, nor surprisingly!

Andy Rodker club has replied to slgwv clubMy mum recalls the path as being much further out to sea than I remember and it joined the current cliff at the point where the green field nearly meets the white cliff edge.
At this rate of erosion, I can easily see how legends of sunken lands such as Lyonesse, etc. arise; people would see a rapid erosion rate in their own lifetimes!

Ron,
Many thanks!

Andy Rodker club has replied to Marie-claire GalletOn reflection, yes. In the past I had being walking happily here. It was a pleasant place of heather and gorse and wildlife in general. I used to walk right close to the edge without a thought of any risk whatsoever!
A cracking shot (no pun intended) Andy.............and a great example of coastal erosion. Not always as slow a process as people think :-)
Andy Rodker club has replied to Keith Burton clubThen I recalled an item on the local news, just before I left for Spain in 2010, which referred to a large landslip near Porthtowan but I was too busy sorting out my move to take too much notice (after all land slips are frequent) and then I clean forgot. What amazed me was the sheer scale of it. Fortunately it was at night, in a storm, and none of the nearby residents heard or saw a thing!
Bonne soirée

I had photos but they are locked away in an external hard drive that I can't currently connect to my current laptop (long story). That is why nearly all of my Cornish uploads are repeats these days!
Andy Rodker club has replied to Marie-claire GalletMarie-claire Gallet has replied to Andy Rodker clubAndy Rodker club has replied to Marie-claire GalletThe reason is that my mother had some of the books and I thought (aged 15 or so), 'Ah! these might be good!' as I already loved Cornwall. But they were SO BAD that I couldn't bring myself to have anything to do with Poldark and that included the TV series! Sorry!
Happy and healthy weekend.
