Situé sur un éperon rocheux, le château primitif de Hierges remonte au IXème siècle. Il fut reconstruit à dans la seconde partie de XVIème siècle.

En souvenir d'un seigneur local, qui épousa au XIIème siècle la soeur du 'Roi de Jérusalem', le château de Hierges porte également le nom de « château de Jérusalem. »
