In 2014, the city of Lille decide to restore the bridge to its original shape which means to build a bridge identical to the one of 1809.

Son architecture élégante et inhabituelle a toujours fait la singularité du Pont Napoléon. Il a été et reste le seul exemple de pont couvert piétonnier, construit en fer et en pierre.
