Reindeer Project 7/7; Slow Way Up

Reindeer Project 7/7; Slow Way Up
One more image from my little project from last summer. Summer is closing in and who knows what kind of photographic surprises are in store for us.
Male reindeer (bull) walking slowly uphill near the northern Norwegian village of Hamningberg. The male are still concerving energi for the fall.

I like the way a photograph like this connects us to our distant ancestors who inscribed and painted such beasts on the walls of caves. Treated with respect, using our imagination, a creature like this brings us its inspiration and power. It provides those who live with it everything they need to survive in the harsh landscape.

Ah, yes, my favorite series of yours! Can you get fairly close to them? I somehow have the impression that they are a lot more docile than moose or elk in N. America, which can be very dangerous.

Peter Van Lom has replied to Diane Putnam club
Hi D, yes they are semi domesticated. Some like to keep their distance and others are not bothered by people/cars at all. This one, however, was made with a 500mm lens. You can't compare them with moose that also here are quite dangerous. There are only two places left with wild herds. One in the south and one on Spitsbergen.
