Borrego Palm Canyon
In 2018 we were in southern California, Arizona and New Mexico and visited, along with many other place, Anza-borrego Desert State Park in southern California. We spent a couple of days there before going east to the Salton Sea and its wildlife refuges. While in Anza-borrego, we hiked the Borrego Palms trail to an oasis and these photos were taken on that hike.

Epipactis gigantea
These Stream Orchids were photographed along the Illinois River in Oregon. They are the only native Epipactis species and are also known as the Chatterbox because the lip "chatters" in the lightest breeze, moving up and down. The lower flower has a bee on it which later crawled under the column and flew away with the pollinia.

Spiranthes porrifolia
These Ute Ladies' Treeses were photographed along the Illinois River in Oregon. All the different Spiranthes species are known as Ladies' Tresses because the flowers are "braided" around the flower stem. This species is found in a few locations in Washington but is much more common further south.
Sol Duc Falls
Taken on a hike in the Sol Duc area of Olympic National Park whil on an extended trip there in 2015. The Sol Duc area is on the north end of the park west of the city of Port Angeles. There are hot springs, several campgrounds, another falls, some virgin forest and a place to watch the salmon along the Sol Duc Road.
Sol Duc Falls
Sol Duc Falls is a short hike from the end of the Sol Duc Road in Olympic National Park, Washington.
Lost Canyon
Last spring we were in Utah with our oldest daughter and visited Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. In the Needles District of Canyonlands we did an all-day hike through the area of Lost Canyon. We hiked a total of about ten miles through canyons, up and over ridges, and around formations such as this. It was, we all agreed, the best hike we had done in the park.
