Sacred Datura
These last photos from Joshua Tree National Park are of the flowers of the Sacred Datura, an hallucinogenic but very dangerous plant. Also known as thorn apple, moon lily, moon flower, Indian apple, angel's trumpet, devil's trumpet, tolguacha, locoweed and Jimson weed. Especially its seeds and roots have been used by native tribes as an anesthetic and in religious ceremonies but numerous death have been reported and emergency room incidents are reported as high as thousand a year. I've added this to the group for Pam since she sent me seeds of a related species, Datura inoxia, that are planted and growing (I have no intention of testing its hallucinogenic properties).

Très joli celui-là... il y a quelques années j'en avais un qui était jaune, une beauté !
I'm so glad you enjoyed my medicine extravaganza! They are such fun to photograph (lol, obviously) and I'm happy to open the idea up to you for future photography play! You're right, my favorites are the vibrant red and purple-altered versions...I couldn't NOT play with the colors because I know from experience how juicy and delicious the colors become when you mess with them. Really fun to share too...I tell you, any color you pick is gorgeous but two was enough or people would be throwing rocks at me! :D Still...the bright green and blue colors, orange...ooooh, they are so pretty! :D I totally recommend you try this just for the fun of playing with the colors afterwards! :D Then I can throw rocks at you! (Yes Ron, your gorgeous gel caps ARE stunning in neon blue! As they were in neon orange, pink, green, red, purple, etc...lol!)
Glad to hear that your trip was as good as possible. I too, cannot STAND getting stuck in metropolitan traffic. When going to San Francisco, we must travel through or near Redding, Red Bluff, Sacramento, and then the horrors of the Bay Area as we get closer. On occasion we've gotten stuck in really bad rush HOURS down there and things can slow to such a long, slow crawl. UGH. The worst part is the bad attitudes and frenetic energy from people all around. Can't STAND it. You can actually feel this as you approach condensed areas, but of course you know this. Gives me the hives.
So nice to read about your love affair with Mt. Baker and the area. I am unfamiliar, so I look forward to pictures! :) And you'll have to let me know about your snowshoeing adventures, I've never tried this before, sounds like a lovely time. :)
It has a special smell when in full bloom.
Next time it happens will record it.
Thank you Ron.

Thanks also for the interesting note, Ron!

I LOVE MY VINES... MY RECORD FOR FLOWERS ONE NIGHT WAS 56... THE SPHINX MOTHS WERE INTOXICATED WITH THEM AND THE PERFUME.
THESE INDEED WERE THE SHAMANS PLSNT
This plant can often be seen here in gardens and on terraces. You have to make them inaccessible to children ...
