American Pika

The American Pika, Ochotona princeps, is a small relative of the rabbit that lives in alpine boulderfields in the American west. This one was photographed along the Heather-Maple Pass trail in the North Cascades and seemed completely unafraid of us.

so great. i learned about these animals at the zoo! they have a sculpture of one with the sound it makes. always thought it was cute - this is cuter!
