Purple Riot

Purple Riot
In Explore September 14, 2009, #348.

A flower of Bee Balm (Monarda didyma) photographed in my "studio." The reference to a purple riot comes from a poem of John Keats, "The Eve of St. Agnes." The full quote is:
"Sudden a thought came like a full-blown rose,
Flushing his brow, and in his pained heart
Made purple riot."

Wonderful color to this Beebalm! Great macro work, too =) Tough to capture these without insects as irresistible as they are to 'em -- though I suppose you wouldn't have that problem in a studio ;)
