Johannesburg Mountain

Johannesburg Mountain
This is the sheer north face of Johannesburg Mountain which drops 5000 feet in just under a mile. This sheer slope looms over Cascade Pass, and this photo was taken from across the pass on the trail that follows the opposite slope. The picture was taken early in the morning on a recent backpacking trip through Cascade Pass. I discovered when I arrived home and looked at my pictures, that they are all a bit hazy, probably from the wildfires that are burning further south in the Cascades. According to the information I have, the mountain is actually misnamed and should be "Johnsberg," the name of one of the mining claims on the mountain. It also has the name "Elspeth" in some accounts.
