Hartshead Pike from the north

A promise of a few hours of dry weather sent me roaming onto my local hillsides. This is an old beacon tower which I have photographed many times but not quite from this spot. This exact spot is a place where I used to explore with my young brothers when I was a kid walking up a big hill to get here.

“During the Roman occupation of Britain, a warning beacon for local garrisons, possibly lit during times of unrest, may have been sited on Hartshead Pike. The name refers to the hill and the tower. The tower is not on the highest part of the hill but its prominent position, 940 feet (290 m) above sea level, has been the site of a beacon or signalling station from early times, or at least from the 16th century.” WiKi

Another experiment with the new-to-me Lumix FZ1000/2. Disappointingly not as sharp as my bigger sensor+ professional lens Nikon D7500. This is in fact a hand-held 5-shot HDR scene to bring out the character of the clouds that I was seeing, so not helping with the definition of course! As an old friend often quoted me “You cannot make a silk purse out of a sows ear”. Ah well, a rather nice photo all the same, I think, and hopefully you do too. The Bridge camera to its credit has a lot of nice features and for me the weight and size + long lens range outweighs most of its downsides.
