The Yorkshire Dales and Pen-Y-Ghent

The Yorkshire Dales and Pen-Y-Ghent
Trying to capture a photo when the landscape is in deep shadow is asking for trouble but the clouds parted a little to let this corridor of light appear just at the mountains foot. The temptation is to turn up the brilliance a little but that would have spoiled the whole atmosphere of this.

Margrit May Berger (♫ SwissMay), Andy Rodker have particularly liked this photo

I like this near-silhouette of Pen-Y -Ghent. A lovely shot.

Glad you like this one Andy. I had a feeling that it might have been a little moody for Ipernity.

Oh, Herb, great photo, I love it! ! I passed here as well, and I took a few photo from.Pen-Y-Ghent as well. I stayed for the night at the crown in Horton. Thank you for uploading. Mines are in Panoramio. www.panoramio.com/user/1441973?photo_page=43

I loved the English countryside so much, I feel quite a nostalgia.

Warm regards, May

Ah Margrit, thank you for reminding me that Panoramio is still actually out there, be it in its skeleton form. I see that you have indeed trod these same Dales roads as I have. I don't live too far away from here and so I get to see this part of the country a few times a year. Glad you like the memory revival. You may like the next photo too. Best wishes Herb
ps do you know your Panoramio pictures can be seen in this site too: mapsights.com

It's a great pity we don't have access anymore to Pano! Rather than for ipernity I'd pay for Panoramio, if someone would continue it. I have uploaded the photos of nearly all my journeys through England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland on swissmay2, the site I sent you. There are nearly 900 only of my journey in 2010 through England, South to North.

Yes, thanks Herb, Tone told me about mapsights.

Best regards, Margrit

Hi Herb, I did not see the site before. I guess all the photos are from Panoramio, I found some mines, with titles changed a bit, , but with all my tags, without links and the name also.
mapsights.com/milano/milan-royal-palace-exibition-futurism-1909-2009-speed-art-action-giant-copy-of-linee-forza-del-pugno-di-boccioni-by-gballa-1915/18925754 . I did not try to enter, to look if there is more, like comments and other things. If the links don't work...

... moodiness in a photo is a good thing, whatever the platform ... and yours here captures a mood ... the sunlight slanting across, heightens the drama of this imposing landscape ...

Wally, I so do like your considered comments to my work. I think you know that I have always striven to capture more than just the scene itself. Lighting is invariably the key and so this fits the bill. Best wishes, Herb

That sounds like you have climbed the other two Steve? This was in fact our first peak that we climbed in these parts. I get to this spot about once or twice a year as its not far from Settle and an easy drive to this highish location and the landscapes always look good if you get the light.

Best wishes, Herb
