-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Town Hall of Spoleto is located halfway between the forum, now Piazza del Mercato, and Piazza del Duomo, in an area where, since ancient times, there have been aristocratic houses, private or representative residences. Its foundations, in fact, partly rest on the area of the Roman House discovered by Giuseppe Sordini in 1885.
After a long renovation completed in 2007, it houses the city's institutional and political bodies.
The current appearance of the palace is the result of eighteenth century works. The high tower that overlooks the building is the only thirteenth century element still present; rectangular in plan, it is built in masonry with flints like the medieval city walls; the bell cell has sixteenth century characteristics while the final one is from the eighteenth century.
The south façade, built by Francesco Angelo Amadio, is preceded by a wide staircase; on the left continues with Palazzo Brancaleoni, decorated in neo-Gothic style by the artists Giuseppe Moscatelli and Benigno Peruzzi from Spoleto, to whom most of the decorations of the interior rooms are also attributed.
In front of the south façade since 1962 there is a slender iron and steel sculpture by Nino Franchina entitled Spoleto '62, created for the exhibition Sculture in the City and donated to the city.
