CRANES

I was able to watch this crane wading and feeding in the meadow while his mate is sitting on the nest.

I have never seen a sandhill crane sitting on the nest. I was lucky to have spotted this bird, even though the nest is many hundreds of feet away.

The Sandhill Crane parents must have left the nest very recently. The chick is not visible in the tall cattails. It will take a few weeks before I will be able to see if they have one or two chicks.
