Northern harrier (Circus cyaneus) ?

Northern harrier (Circus cyaneus) ?
Buteo platypterus?
This bird attacked something just above my living room door, then perched on a nearby tree for several minutes. I took several photos through the window before it flew away.

Possibly a Rough-legged buzzard also called a Rough- legged hawk (Buteo lagopus)?

Either way it's a magnificent looking raptor............and a pretty good shot of it. You must have quick reflexes Ronald.

A difficult identification. B. lagopus is mostly found well north of here, but it is a possibility. I'm leaning toward it being a broad-winged hawk, B. platypterus. I saw it again today in the forest.

We don't get either in the UK, so I suspect you've a better chance of getting the ID right than me!

Nice hawk. Reminds me of Common Buzzard that lives throughout Europe/Eurasia, but since this is I believe in the USA, it must be a local hawk. Although I read that some buzzards were seen at the East coast (N. Jersey)

Thank you for your comment, ɱ ƕ . I have had some difficulty fully identifying this bird. Yes, this photo was taken in Mississippi in the southeastern USA. Buteo lineatus and B. platypterus share a similar appearance, and I didn't get any photos that would distinguish them. I am happy that this one has decided to visit here.

This, too, could be a Marsh Hawk. I checked with Wikipedia.

I agree. I have changed the title to Northern harrier (Circus cyaneus) with the other two photos. I am pretty sure they are one and the same bird.
