Raccoon high in a sweet-gum tree

Raccoon high in a sweet-gum tree
Branco alerted me to this raccoon. (I am not accusing the raccoon of eating the baby cardinals.)

Danke schön, Erich. Ich wusste nicht, dass sie außerhalb Nordamerikas lebten.

Oh, dear. Any chance Branco scared it away? Nature marches on and a raccoon survives for another day!
Have you ever heard raccoons fight? Years ago, we heard the most blood curdling screams and cries with no idea of what we would find when we went to investigate. It turned out to be several raccoons in a tree across the road, in an apparent fight to the death! Unearthly!

The raccoon didn't seem a bit scared of Branco. It was very high in the tree and seemed to be unconcerned about anything. I have been camping in campgrounds where raccoons got into the garbage and made a huge amount of noise in the night.
I suspect the adult cardinals are trying again to raise a family - hopefully in a safer place.

I think it is possible, but unlikely, Keith. This is quite far from the cardinal nest. Still, I was really taking a liking to the baby birds.

A terrific shot of this raccoon Ronald but I do hope he didn't get to the baby cardinals. I guess it is nature but it would be so sad.
