Wood duck (Aix sponsa)
Probably it has a nest in one of the dead pine trees.

Yes, it was. I had seen this one and its partner swimming on my pond a few weeks ago, but this one made a noise while I was walking through the forest. I assume it has a nest in a tree hole, but I haven't found it yet. Thanks for the visit and comment, UdoSm.

A female I think Ronald? It's really gorgeous.............I've seen the males but never a female (and then only in a reserve, not in the wild).

Beautifully captured.

Yes, this is a female. I saw a pair of them on my pond a few weeks ago. I suppose this is one of them.

Un canard dans un arbre ? J'ai jamais vu, ce canard non plus d'ailleurs.
Belle observation.

Thank you for the visit and comment, Sylvie. They prefer to nest in trees near water.
