You have to be lucky to see them sitting so quietly outdoors...

Thank you, Udo. I was lucky. It is difficult to get a photo of one of them, since they usually go into the hole immediately after landing on the tree.

Oh, how sweet! :)

We have barn swallows here but they are so quick that I've never even tried to get a photo yet. Congratulations, Ronald!

Thanks, Karen. When they are flying, it is almost impossible to photograph them. I am lucky that this pair has a nest inside this hollow tree in the middle of a pond. I also have a house for ducks attached to the same tree. I don't really know if there were ducks nesting in there this spring.

What a perfect setting for them.

We used to have some nesting in our barn when we had horses but once the horses were gone they birds left too. I'm not sure why.

My guess would be the horses attracted insects that the swallows ate. Here, I see the swallows flying above the pond and catching insects. It is a short commute for them.

I suppose you had to be really patient to take this great photo, well done!

Ronald Losure club has replied to Christa1004 club
Yes, I had to be patient and lucky. I rarely saw both birds at the same time, and they would enter the hole within a few seconds after it alit on the tree.
