Fox squirrel

Fox squirrel
Looking out to see who just knocked on his box. (Not focused because the camera was too close to subject.)

Prachtige opname, Ronald! Ik neem aan dat dit een wild-cam is,en was altijd benieuwd naar de kwaliteit van de beelden. Leuk dat jij ons dit liet zien.
Hartelijke groeten en een prettig weekend.......Frans.

Thank you, Frans. Yes, this a Browning BTC5HD camera. It also has an "infrared" flash for night photos. Not really infrared; I can see the flash.

Dat is juist,Ronald. De politie gebruikt ook infrarood flitsers en die kan ik ook zien, maar dat kost 65 euro.......Hartelijke groeten en bedankt dat jij ons de beelden liet zien....Frans.

Thanks, Pam. There are many fox squirrels here, too. They seem to prefer the deeper forest. The gray squirrels visit the "bird" feeders, but I never see fox squirrels there. There are flying squirrels, too, but I have never seen them with my eyes, only my "critter cam".

The squirrel is very vigilant. The duck's feathers can be seen at the left.

what is a fox squirrel? Never heard of it. Obviously a rodent rather than a fox! Excellent capture!

Fox squirrel is Sciurus niger. It is one of the most common squirrels in eastern North America. Their fur is highly variable in color. Many of them have a red color very similar to that of a fox.

What a cutie! I've never heard of a fox squirrel, of course we don't get to see them, anyway.

I think they're an eastern thing. They are much bigger than a gray squirrel and highly variable in color. I think every university in the east claims to be the only home of the black variety.
