The Dale (Delmar) Hawkins single "Susie Q" (Hawkins - Lewis - Broadwater) highlights James Burton on guitar. Dale was cousin to Ronnie Hawkins and as a music producer Dale was responsible for "Western Union" by The Five Americans. Later he was executive v.p. of Abnack Records. Susie Q" reached number twenty-seven on Billboard and number seven on the R&B chart in 1957.

Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Susie Q" timed at over eight minutes is on the group's 1968 debut album. The edited part one and part two single, their first, peaked at number eleven.
