In 1968 "Little Green Apples" (Bobby Russell) was written for the incredibly talented Roger Miller. Recorded with producer Jerry Kennedy in a January session for the album "A Tender Look At Love", the single hit the top forty pop, top ten Easy Listening and Country charts. This was the last time Roger appeared on the top forty and top ten sections of the Country or Easy Listening charts.
The Patti Page album "Gentle On My Mind" contains her cover of "Little Green Apples". Released in June the single hit the top ten Easy Listening and broke into the Billboard Top One Hundred in the low nineties. It was her final chart appearance.
All of this happened in 1968 as did the O.C. Smith number two hit on the Top One Hundred. His version of "Little Green Apples" helped earn composer Bobby Russell two Grammys. This is on the album "Hickory Holler Revisted". This was the last time O.C. appeared in the top ten.
