Composer Jim Steinman is rightly associated with the career of Meat Loaf (Bat Out of Hell album, etc.) but he is also responsible for hits by others including Barry Manilow (Read'Em and Weep), Celine Dion (It's All Coming Back to Me Now), Air Supply (Making Love Out of Nothing At All), Boyzone's "No Matter What" and Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart". Some may say that Steinman's productions are overproduced and that may be so but they are extremely well done!
The Bonnie Tyler 1983 album "Faster Than the Speed of Night" consists of many cover tunes and the fourth track on the release is the Steinman produced "Total Eclipse of the Heart". One of the session guitarists is Rick Derringer and the drummer is Max Weinberg. The album also has contributions by Paul Shaffer and members of his World's Most Dangerous Band. "Total Eclipse of the Heart" topped the Billboard charts.
Former session singer and actress Nicki French released a cover in 1995 and it peaked in the number two position. There are many remixes of the song available.
