Lee Hazlewood wrote "The Fool" (Naomi Ford) using his wife's name because at the time you apparently couldn't legally have the same person listed as composer, producer and manager. Lee Hazlewood was "instrumental" in Duane Eddy's career and that of Nancy Sinatra.

Lee Hazlewood produced Sanford Clark's first recording of "The Fool" (Naomi Ford) in 1956 featuring Al Casey on guitar. The first pressing was released on the local Phoenix label MCI then nationally on Dot Records. It became at top ten hit. Roger Miller asked Sanford to record "Dang Me" but he turned the song down. Later Lee Hazlewood produced Sanford Clark's "Houston" which was obviously overshadowed by the Dean Martin hit, also a Lee Hazlewood production.

Jamie Coe (George Colovas) and The Gigolos released "The Fool" (N. Ford - Hazlewood) in 1963. Bobby Darin had suggested the name change and signed him to Bobby's new "Addison label. In 1963 it was recorded for Big Top Records and was a local hit in the Detroit area.
