David de Groot's photos with the cedar creek

Main Falls - Cedar Creek

Main Falls - Cedar Creek
Today I ventured far up Cedar Creek, scrambling over rocks, through thorny plants and mud to reach a once very frequented waterhole and waterfall that has been closed to the public for about 10 years.

This is the scene that greeted me when I got there.

Rushing Waters

Rushing Waters
We've had quite a bit of rain recently (9 inches over two days) - very unseasonable. Anyway, I trundled down to the creek a couple of days after the rain stopped and took a few shots, this being one of them.

Guarding the entrance

Guarding the entrance
Spider Ant.
Formicidae Leptomyrmex Formicinae.

Not quite as sharp as I would have liked, but you still get the idea. This guy and a couple of his mates were carefully guarding the entrance to their nest so I didn't want to be seen as intruding too…

Fly on a leaf

Fly on a leaf
While on our macro meet yesterday we came across many flies of all sorts of colours, mostly sitting on leaves. Here's one of the more "standard" ones.

I'm thinking this is one of the many Blowflies in Australia. They can usually be identified by their sh…

Little tiny yellow fungi coming up in my herb pot.

These get to be quite a decent size (about the same size as a large button mushroom) eventually.

Longicorn Beetle - Cerambycidae Sp. - Hesthesis angulatus
Anyone got an ID on this one ? Positive ID rec'd - see title.

Found this guy sitting on a blade of tall grass in my front yard (Cedar Creek, Qld). He seemed to be poking his tongue in and out (the orangey thing on the end of the snout).

Flowing Fast

Flowing Fast
Cedar Creek still flowing fast after the rains.

I only took twelve shots around here as I was being eaten alive by mosquitoes.

Kara

Kara
Another shot from the other evening's shoot.
Just playing around to see what a b&w / duotoned version would look like. Technically, I could have done with a titch more depth, as the eye on the left isn't sharp (the right one is though). Lea doesn't lik…

Creek Panorama

Creek Panorama
Cedar Creek,
Queensland,
Australia.

We had 2 inches (50mm) of rain in about an hour this afternoon so it was off to the creek for me as soon as the rain had cleared. I decided to do something different and go for a stitched panorama.

This is the f…
