Kara has new Bling

Kara has new Bling
In order to show off Kara's present from Grandma, we set up some lights, diffused them with a sheet, fired up a fan and I got shooting.
I think I like this the best out of the 150 odd photos taken as she's not trying to pull a silly face here and manage…

Whirlpool

Whirlpool
Another whirlpool spotted in the creek yesterday, this one next to a spot where the water rushes out from amidst the rocks.

I took a closer crop of the whirlpool and jetstream but felt the wider context shot was more pleasing to the eye.

Also pud…

Rock Pool

Rock Pool
This time with the polarizer twisted around to minimize the surface reflections. You get a completely different feel to the photo.

Reflections in the pool

Reflections in the pool
While wandering up Cedar Creek today I discovered a shallow rock pool. It was just the spot for some long-exposure reflections.

Wreck of the HQMS Gayundah

Wreck of the HQMS Gayundah
at Woody Point.

An attempt at light painting.

Only two minor flaws with badly positioned flash units. I probably should have gone for a much longer exposure to try to get some colour in the sky, but at 7 minutes I figured the noise was going to…

Liquid Gold

Liquid Gold
Sunrises are quite amazing when clouds are involved.
From dusky pink through to rich blues and yellows and then brilliant gold when the sun finally pokes through the clouds.

Shame they occur at such an ungodly hour.

Sunrise over Wivenhoe

Sunrise over Wivenhoe
Yes, believe it or not, I managed to get up at 3am to drive to Lake Wivenhoe for the sole purpose of taking photographs at sunrise.

I was out shooting for the Esk Shire photography contest (due on the 31st of this month). This is one of the ones I'm not…

Crosshatch Palm Leaves

Crosshatch Palm Leaves
These palm leaves visually sprang out at me during a walk in the Eungella National Park west of Mackay, Qld.

I found the polarising effect of the leaves on one another quite intriguing.

Crosshatch Palm Leaves available as a print or poster at Redbubble…

Sugar Mill by Night

Sugar Mill by Night
On the way back from Eungella National Park, Dad and I stopped in front of the Sarina Sugar Mill and Ethanol processing plant.

I'd spotted this on the way out and thought it might look interesting lit up at night.

Volcanic Pacman

Volcanic Pacman
Like a giant Pacman eating the island, or one of the space monsters from Calvin & Hobbes comics, these large lumps of volcanic rock litter the beach at Cape Hillsborough.

All are eroded in interesting ways by the constant pounding of the ocean at high…

Araluen Cascades

Araluen Cascades
Finch Hatton Gorge.

Dad and I set off late in the afternoon to photograph the waterfalls of Finch Hatton Gorge, leaving the family with the cars (they didn't fancy the walk).
We shot two falls, but decided not to go on to the last one as the light…

Riverfire

Riverfire
River Festival, Brisbane.

Heralding in the new Spring.

This was shot from my office on the 13th floor of Waterfront Place, right next to the river. The fireworks were bursting at about our height and probably only 75 to 100m away.

Now available, Rive…
