Damn, I miss having a cat. :(
I'm getting used to young people screwing up my life. They'll be old one day and I hope young people screw up their lives.
Off to eat cake and drink tea. :)

Yep, the five or six regular defenders are amazingly obnoxious, and allowed to continue to be amazingly obnoxious. Whatever the situation is with regard to the meet-up held shortly before the release of the 'awesome', it's left many people very uncomfortable about their 'role'. It really is nothing to do with 'professional' photographers vs iphone snappers as some are implying, it's the fact that the site is bug ridden, resource hungry, slow as molasses, visually oppressive, and geared to suit advertisers (although, from the screen shots I've seen, it fails there too) rather than the photographs. I just don't get it. I'll have to go with the 'cock-up theory' too. Of course we're unaware of long term plans and possible integration with tumblr but the direction they're heading looks wrong from where I'm standing. I really don't think there is anyone left in flickr who understands their own product or, indeed, photography. It smacks of a bunch of kids fresh out of media studies class. Bless 'em. I think dumbing down is just the way of the world these days. Everything has to be 'in your face' and based around short attention spans. I certainly can't spend more than 3 minutes looking at even my own photostream over there now.

An updated 'fixed bugs' thread would be nice. How hard would it be for them to add 'collections' to the black navigation bar? They can't even chuck us a bone to show they're taking feedback seriously. Their response seems to be 'yeah, we like it this way, so deal with it or sod off'. It's driven away loyal users and I really can't see how it's supposed to draw in new users. I'm ranting, but closing the ranting thread has left many people angry and with nowhere to vent.

I've never known any company go so far out of their way to annoy and drive away their most loyal customers. The customer liaison girl has a hell of a lot to learn about customer liaison. Every time she posts it feels like an insult and a further kicking. Updates are few, far between, and missing the point. I'm still there, but hardly posting anything. It certainly won't last in its current form. And it seems to be getting worse rather than better. The pre-loading pixelated image which takes a few seconds to load up in focus is just crazy. All very sad.

I can't even look at Flickr anymore. The site changes are bad enough, but the staff responses (or lack of) are appalling. Closing the feedback thread was the last straw for me. Very kind of you to comment over here. Thank you. :)
