December 28, 2009Tradition here is that once a year (Chinese new year, Ramadan, Christmas, Gawaii) one should open one's house for any guest (family, friends, their friends, and even strangers), and provide home-cooked hot meal and drinks for all of them. It strengthens the links within the society, and that way Sarawakis have managed so-far to stay relatively united, despite so many different beliefs and customs.
