Hello - This group is growing nicely - yeah! I was the person who happened to start it, but it is a collective effort....would anyone else like to help admin or moderate here?

Wait - before you say yes, does anyone have particular wants and wishes for what this group will be? Ideas please!

I will reply first to my own post - taking off my admin hat, I will say that I am not a fan of gif invitations or awards, animated or otherwise!

What I hope to see is a space for discussion of street photography techniques, experiences etc. Maybe a showcase of work in some discussion threads.

not sure if my street snapshots are good enough but i will add some of mine later.
i think it's really funny and interesting to see other peoples' views on things in their environment and what streets and streetsigns and all that look like in other countries. so thank you for this group. let me know if you need help. i didn't understand if what you said above was a call for help ?!? :)

It was an invitation for others to help if they want to : ) I haven't had other groups require much 'work' but as there is interest in this style of photography and a growing member list I thought maybe others have thoughts on what they want here.

ok, after having read the wikipedia explanation i know my pictures are wrong here :)) i thought it was urban pictures. but there ought to be people in them right? i am sorry. you can delete my pictures from the group, no problem.

No worries...I linked the wiki page to give some context. Personally I see 'street photography' as having people in the image but others may have a different interpretation. I like your photos...maybe they are a good fit for 'urban fragments' (not sure if that group has started here)...another good urban group that I've seen re-created here is 'public space and its discontents'...

The pool does seem to be moving away from the wikipedia type definition of street photography. I'd be tempted to remove non-people shots (at least) from the pool.

Yes, I've noticed that on the few opportunities I've had to browse it this week. I wish others had piped up about what they want to see here...removing photos without notice is not my style. Time for a specific thread on this. Thanks John.

In my opinion it better not the remove pictures, but see that they don't appear in the first place. So I recommend you to moderate the group. That means that you have to say OK to every picture. If you get a picture that is not about street photography, you can tell them why you don't accept it with a small standard letter which has e.g the Wikipedia definition, which is quite clear.

Hi all. I'm new here, but, if I may weigh in . . .

Street Photography is probably the most misunderstood genre of photography and I often think the name of a misnomer. But, it is what it is and many people don't really understand the history or purpose. As far as the pool is concerned, my hope is that it must be enjoyable to look through otherwise people will not. Think of the thousands of groups on Flickr that are crap. I only know of several group pools that interest many users. Unfortunately, most pools become a dumping ground for people seeking their 15 minutes of fame -- rather than a place to share quality photography.

I appreciate Paul's suggestion, and you can try to encourage that people only submit relevant photographs, but I'm sure this will be impossible to keep things on track. The only way to do this is to have an admin who curates the submissions. If you do, the admin can be generous, but honestly, I think it is in everybody's best interest to have a quality pool. This might be frustrating for some but it will encourage people to excel and that will be better for everyone.

My 2 cents . . .

Oh, and I'm glad to be here. :-)
