I refuse to try Picasa, for I don't really need it, and it is wine-based. If we support Google's lazy current trend to make wine apps for Linux, we shall soon no longer run Linux, but a sort of poor man's Windows. I only use Wine when I need a Photoshop plugin, and I boycott all Google's Wine apps.

to classify them i chose gThumb. i like that all metadata about photo is stored in a hidden subdirectory where the photo is placed. Then you can move everywhere that directory, all data is always present in gThumb.
from gThumb pressing g open a photo in gimp to edit it, using ufraw in case of raw images.
finally, with another script of my own, i upload photos i selected to ipernity or flickr from the same gThumb.
