There seems to be some bug with the character set in KDE.
Change your password and avoid non-ASCII-Standard Characters.
If you can't find a possibility in GNOME to do this, open a terminal and use the command "passwd".
You will be prompted to type in your current password, after that you will get the possibility to insert a new password (twice, to avoid typo-problems).

Back in GNOME environment ive noticed it is no problem entering a password when forgetting the dubble character appearance. I normally could log in with my old passw with excessive characters shown. I can log in through my Gnome applications with correct number of chars of my password but KDE Adept manager works only after i open ti using synaptic or add/ remove programs of GNOME. However still the problem is to open Log in Window (the place where u can change how your starting screen looks like), i lost access to it completely. It starts but it always closes down before i can do anything. I probably did something wrong when i tried the applications using them randomly and even several of them at a time. Once I got the message that i wont be able to use something if i would enter wrong password again. despite that i did it because i always used the same root password. Unfortunatelly it was not recognised. What do I do? Thank u 4 your help.

Now Ive changed my passwd and i managed to open GDM without any problems but when i try to run Adept using kdesu adept command it says the command not found.

~$ kdesu adept

sudo: adept: command not found

What does this mean?

It seems that adept is not installed ...
