Flickr deletion survey

Hi all.

Just thought it might be an idea to survey all the former Flickr account holders to see:

a) Whether or not they had a pro account (so how much money Flickr is losing ...)
b) How many times they were deleted
c) Whether or not they'd ever had any contact from Flickr prior to the deletion warning of any breaches of policy

M ◄DRB► says:
A) I had 2 PRO accounts

B) I've been deleted 6 times, 2 were PRO

C) Never said a word to me!

I won't renew when my current PRO account is gone...for whatever reason!!

I won't renew my account either. I still have many photo's to download from my flikr site that I do not have on back up files yet. When that is done I'll be done with them also. Merf P.S. I have not been deleted yet? Last time I checked.

I suppose I should answer my own survey.

a) I had one pro account
b) five times, including the pro account
c) nope, never heard a thing. I even sent them emails asking for an explanation - never got a reply.

And yes, I'll not be sending them any member for another pro account. And I also have to download about 1300 photos that I had up there. All of them will make it here eventually.

a) never been pro
b) appr. 20 times including all deleted back ups
c) guess what, no warning prior deletion, no explanation after I raised a new account

M Jim ♥ lovirgin ♥ Smith says:
a) I had 1 (donated) PRO Flickr account (about 2 years as a Free, deleted after less then 2 months being PRO)
b) deleted 3 times so far (December 2007, January and Febnuary 2008) and still waiting for next time
c) Nope, there was no warning, no contact prior to deletion - not even once. With the first account I was contacted and warned that my account is unsafe. After fixing the issue account was marked safe and it was never changed back to unsafe again. I even imporved the safety after being reviewed by Flickr staff thanks to suggestions of friends from How not to get deleted Flickr group.

Neither I received explanation or even simple info that my account was deleted. After first time I wrote to Flickr asking them for reasons/explanation but received a genuine e-mail that didn't explain anything. Or rather explained everything: "We reserved the right to terminate account at any time for any reason." So breaking TOS or just being too active could be the reason. Being blocked too many times by people who are too lazy to write a note "Please, take me off your contact list"... Sharing net collected adult nude photos (made private and restricted) - copyright issues.... Sharing to the public 18+ groups (may be seen by youngsters who join anyway)... You name it - anything could be a reason. Rule is: Flickr can do anything, we can do ... nothing. Should I take them to the court because they took some 20 bucks and destroyed my account? I will pay more for a lawyer's first meeting to discuss this issue!

But as the old tune says "Fool me once - shame on you. Fool me twice - shame on me!"
I didn't buy second PRO account. The fact is I will not buy ANYTHING from Flickr/Yahoo EVER. And on Yahoo I was for about 10 years already, paying for their services...

The fact is I will not buy ipernity PRO either... at least for a while. I have to see how this service operates. I am affraid that after a while, when it will grow due to the Flickr'ians migration, they may start the same practices. I saw it already so many times when greed destroyed great services on the net.

a) One Pro account (my first account). [deleted] two months into the Pro account, so Fl*ckr got 10 months for free.

b) I've been [deleted] twice (Let Them Breathe and Let Them Breathe99). The second account was [deleted] shortly after I asked why the first account was [deleted] and if I would receive a refund. (Answer was "terms of service" and "no"). It's also interesting about being "too active" as Jim mentioned. In my second account, I was so paranoid about breaking rules that I spent hours editing -all- of my past comments that had reference to my www.letthembreathe.com site.

I'm now awaiting the third deletion after posting in the Fl*ckr Help Forum: www.flickr.com/help/forum/67047/page12/#reply402233 (text below for those of you never going back)

c) Absolutely no word from Fl*ckr before deletions. No warnings, no hints, nada.

Let_Them_Breathe says:

I am a former Pro account holder. If my account was active, I would also feel that l was owed some feedback on the fix for this problem. They have my money, right? Forget that. They don't care any more than the cable company cares that you lost service for two days during the World Series. It's not like people aren't still buying Pro accounts. They have to make the payroll somehow.

But, I have also been in the business of developing software... It takes time to get it right. The down side is that it can only be tested properly by those who use it. And, I've also learned a lot about business. As long as your customer is knocking at your door, you know that they want to throw their money at you. It's when they stop knocking that you have to rethink your priorities and make things work.

What I'm saying here is that the mere fact that there are so many comments on this thread shows Flickr that customers are just as satisfied to type their thoughts here than to post their images! Why should they fix the Contact part of Flickr when they have a perfectly good chat/forum product? There's a saying that still rings true today: "Decide what you do best... and do it."

Welcome to Chatr, my friends!

Well said Gunther!
It falls on deaf ears I'm afraid!!!
It'll take a huge law-suit by baffled fukwadr users and huge negative publicity to change their thinking - and actions = That'll not happen...

I've never seen so many suck-up Pro members in one place before. That Help Forum is a joke.

The HELP FORUM[right]
The AFM,how not to get deleted group[who's fooling who?]

Those 2 groups are nothing but the equivalent of a Venus Fly Trap.

I was only in those 2 groups to monitor the activities of the 'ACTIVISTS'

But it sure is hard to bite your tongue when they make you MAD!!!

The best thing to do is to try and forget their name!

I had a pro account for almost three months.

Was deleted as I was doing things in a group.

NO warning of any kind.

Terrence (fukwadr staff) gave me the most close to explanation I've ever heard:

-------------------------
Hello,

Flickr account "daboogiemansWHAT?" was deleted by Flickr staff for violating our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.

www.flickr.com/guidelines.gne

# Don’t upload anything that isn't yours.
This includes other people's photographs and/or stuff that you've collected from around the Internet. Accounts that consist primarily of such collections may be terminated.

Flickr reserves the right to deactivate your account without warning at any time.

-Terrence

-------------------------

I copied and pasted this from the response I got.

Later after I cussed out someone in the help forum I was made "unsafe"/"NIPSA".

I got rid of anything that I didn't take, double checked all settings and asked for a review. This is the response I got:

-------------------------
Hello,

I've classified your account as "public"/"safe".
Keep the Flickr guidelines in mind when moderating your photostream in the future.
Specifically, only upload content to your photostream that was taken by you.
Failure to follow the Flickr guidelines could lead to deactivation of your Flickr account.

-Terrence

-------------------------

I don't know why they gave so much information!

flickr staff say they know its a bug causing photo's to re-moderate!!!!

If they say they know about this how come they delete accounts for not moderating adequately?

a)I actually still do have a Pro account, just not one that you would all know me from; I keep it for sharing my baby/wedding/vacation picks. I haven't had a pro account for my naughty pictures.

b)my Peek account has been deleted 4 times. Still waiting on number 5.

c)are you kidding?

Jo,
I think it might be better to get a different ISP (internet service provider) and Ip-address (uniquely identifies your pc on the net) for yourself. Then start a new Yaphoo account and then a new flickr account. In that way they can't trace it back to you (one would hope)!

Pro account, deleted once. My experience was the same as daboogieman's, same form letter, my response was the same (kinda weird now that I think about it - sometimes you scare me daboogieman) and flickr's response to me was the same, same messages word for word. Deleted. I'm not sure about going back, there were some good folks around there who arent here unfortunately. I enjoyed yukking it up with them and showing them my endless repetoire and my sharp and witty humor. The funny thing about my experience, I noted to the flickr police that the TOS is what the law refers to as a contract of adhesion, a relatively simple thing to have a judge set aside during a lawsuit over a breach of contract. That comment brought down the particularly shitty and assinine comments from "Terrence" and "Emily" and the other flickr police members. And I'm with Nina, Terrence needs to get a life.
