It's come to the attention of some moderators of this group that members are posting shots "borrowed" and not their own. While the group rules don't specifically say "only candid shots," I strongly disagree with posting others' material, especially into groups, unless it's done with explicit permission of the original photographer. Not that they aren't great shots, but inevitably people will start complaining, members may get booted, IP ownership gets contacted, the group might be shut down, etc. That's no fun!

Other members thoughts on this?

Absolutely correct.
The posting of "borrowed" material has increased considerably recently, and not only in this group. Mostly you can tell by just looking at the filenames.
IMO, 90+% of contributors are posting their own stuff, and they should not be punished because of a few black sheep.

How should we moderators handle the situation? Reject everything suspicious?

I had invited pics from which I removed.
It appeared a true photographer to me, not a thief. I believe that it is necessary to think before rejecting a suspect. The decisions can be taken with several.

I'd like to see the admin(s) weigh in on this one, as I didn't create the group I don't feel I have the authority to be "the enforcer". Some days, when I see 15 shots which are all borrowed, I just sigh and don't moderate.

I have removed the more invading since a few weeks from one of the two groups which I created.

Same with me, PF, and for the same reason.
Maybe the rules need to be clarified, as Gee Dub did in his groups.

Apparently, the moderation dilemma has been resolved by the admin(s) by making the main culprit a moderator. Kind of a statement...

If this group is being turned into a picture dump (and it's on its way), I'll be out of here soon.

oh that's classic! I just looked at the stream of this group and noticed the first two pages are "webfinds" - now I understand why. I'm leaving this group. If anyone starts up a candid boots group where people only post their own shots, I hope I'll be invited.

There are now here only photographs stolen. To reduce the number of post will change it nothing .

I agree with you stolen pics from web or worse from members have nothing to do in a group,
I follow you and I am leaving with my pics too.

I'm sorry to hear about the developments in this group. The theme is great, but IMHO stolen pics are a no-no on my book, so I'll have to follow PF & company and leave the group. If the admins change their mind about the rules, feel free to contact me and I'll be back.

Just joined and now I am leaving just as quickly. Guys, this isn't rocket science to figure out stolen photos. All you need to know is the who is posting them. The same people who have nothing but web finds in their collection, post nothing but web finds in groups. So this is just another trashed group with a collection of web finds. No one who takes the trouble to get their own shotsw, edit and post them wants their photos to be in such a collection. So this group is, and always will be web finds and you will have no photos from the many skilled photographers here who shoot their own stuff. Another boring ass group with no moderation, quality control, or direction. Good luck with that.

I completely agree with you. This group (and some of my other groups) urgently needed some "cleaning"...

That's what i tried to do by introducing stricter rules for the group, by removing the stolen photos (as far as i could) and their poster(s) from the group.

I regret that i appointed one of those moderator of the group, anyway, i couldn't immagine that he had absolutely no own photos to post.

I did the same with those "friends" whose first and only reaction on these problems was reacting with panic, just because one member posted stolen photos, removed all their photos from my group and banned me from their contact list.

I relied on the 10 (!!) moderators of this group during the 2 weeks of my absence, but, as it seems, nobody tried to contact the "thieves", asking them to remove the photos.

This group doesn't need stolen photos, and it doesn't need moderators that don't do their job or members that immediately remove their photos, just because they are afraid of some "collective punishment" for all members of that group.

Have a nice day!
