Passagen - arcades - galéries - gallerie....
The craze of shopping arcades started in Europe in the 19th century and spread to all countries in the world aspiring to a "European" lifestyle.
This group is about those gorgeous 19th century temples of shopping all over the world. Its name is taken from the great Zola, who in 1883 described a shopping palace in Paris as follows: "C'était la cathédrale du commerce moderne, solide et légère, faite pour un peuple de clientes." ("Au Bonheur des dames", ch. IX).
If they were good enough for Emile Zola to write a novel about and for Walter Benjamin to philosophize about , they're good enough to Ipernity!
PS: Pictures of famous railway stations, "modern" malls and buildings related to trade and commerce in any way are also welcome, thanks.
PPS: Please tagg / geotagg your photo so that others can see what it is and / or where
it was taken. - No abstract pictures please!
